Successful HIE Faces Funding Challenges

Nearly all the hospitals and public clinics in Memphis, Tenn. participate in that region's health information exchange, which has collected and shares electronic health data for one million people. Supporters believe that the three-year-old exchange saves health care dollars and helps doctors make better decisions. Yet, the exchange's future is uncertain because its initial funding runs out in September.
