Bill Would Outlaw HIT Products Not Certified by CCHIT
Posted: June 11 2009
Critics are wondering how New Jersey could possibly enforce the provisions of a pending bill that would outlaw the use of health information technology (HIT) products not certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT). According to the legislation, anyone caught selling or distributing a non-certified product would be subject to civil penalties of up to $5,000 per violation. The bill was reported out of committee in early June.
