Telemedicine is alive and well in Colorado, thanks to two projects aimed at linking rural residents with physicians and medical specialists. The Colorado Hospital Association and the Colorado Behavioral Healthcare Council have selected Qwest Communications to provide high-speed broadband services that will link nearly 400 hospitals, clinics and other health providers to the Colorado Telehealth Network. In another project, UnitedHealthcare is partnering with the state of Colorado and Centura Health on "Connected Care," a telemedicine initiative that will use high-definition video conferencing and other technologies to facilitate nearly 4,800 specialist visits in rural areas.
