A Day in the Life of a Medical Record
John Morrissey
- January, 2006
This report was written by John Morrissey, Director of Knowledge at the National Alliance for Health Information Technology. He hopes that the report will be useful to patients, providers and policymakers as they consider the advantages of implementing electronic health records.
His report concludes that paper records are less effective than electronic records at making information readily available to caregivers at multiple locations and that the inaccessibility of paper records does not necessarily correlate to a high level of confidentiality of patient information.
Morrissey and NAHIT alike hope that the report will generate a more informed dialogue about the relative security of EHRs and dispel fears about security and breaches in privacy.
